UDTS | Dr. Fawcett
In Loving Memory:
Rev. Dr. Henry E Fawcett (Fawcett)
Dr. Fawcett began his role as Pastor to Students and Director of the Native American program at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in 1986 after a long vocation of serving congregations in Alaska, Nebraska, Minnesota and Washington. He continued to serve in various capacities at UD up to 2013. Prior to entering the ministry, Dr. Fawcett served as a commercial salmon fisherman in southeast Alaska, first, as a deckhand, and eventually as captain of the boat, “Top Notch.” Along with his partner in ministry and wife of 63 years, VeNita, the Fawcett’s welcomed many young people from their congregations and students from the University into their extended family. As some of you know, I was very fortunate to be one of them, having first met Henry in a confirmation class when I was 13 years old. Even though the last several years of his life were very difficult, it was truly a joy to see former students share their gift of ministry with both Henry and VeNita during that time. The communities in which these students serve—both large and small--are much more decent places because of these ministries which, in many cases, were first strengthened by Henry and his colleagues.
On Monday evening, June 10 at 6:00 p.m., we will host a gathering of food and conversation for family, friends, colleagues and former students in the Straatmeyer Rehearsal Room, Heritage Center. On Tuesday, June 11 at 11:00 a.m., a memorial service to bear Witness to the Resurrection and give thanks for Henry’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Dubuque. For more information: https://memorials.egelhofsiegertcasper.com/Fawcett-Rev.+Dr.+Henry/3830179/
